A FORMER emergency services executive is proposing to open a gin distillery and small bar in Winnellie.
David Willing, the former executive director of the NT Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services, has applied for a liquor licence to open the business called Willing Distillery at 1/31 Benison Rd, Winnellie
The application says it will be a craft distillery and small bar which will produce gin, and be available for sale and consumption.
The proposed trading hours are 10am to 10pm on Sunday to Thursday, and 10am to midnight on Friday and Saturday, including public holidays.
Food and non-alcoholic drinks will be available.
The application is also seeking to sell house-made liquor online.
In 2011 Mr Willing was appointed as the Emergency Recovery Co-ordinator following Tropical Cyclone Carlos.

He has represented the NT on numerous national committees including the National Crisis Committee, Australian and New Zealand Emergency Management Committee, and was the National chair or the ANZEMC Recovery Committee in 2013.
Prior to joining the NT Government, he served in the Royal Australian Navy and then the Australian Public Service in Alice Springs.
