DARWIN’S oldest practising psychologist, Edwin “Ted” Milliken has turned 100, after decades of helping Territorians in need of a listening ear.
The centenarian celebrated his milestone birthday with family and friends at the Darwin Memorial Uniting Church yesterday.
Mr Milliken has been working in the Territory for more than 60 years and despite being far past the average retirement age, he’s still passionately practising psychology from a home office in Fannie Bay.
Mr Milliken arrived in the NT in 1953 with his wife and two kids and became a senior public servant in the NT’s Government’s welfare branch.
Former NT Senator, Grant Tambling described him as a long time mentor and close friend who never tired of helping others.
“He’s always been a very wise man,” Mr Tambling said. “I’ve known him for a long time, since the 50s when he was my Sunday school teacher during primary school.
“I also had the pleasure of working with him when he was a senior public servant during my time in politics.
“He changed the lives of thousands of Territorians through his committed work in public welfare and as a psychologist.”
