PARKING fees in Darwin and pet ownership licences could see an increases, with Darwin council’s draft fees and charges for next financial year to be sent to council tomorrow night.
While most of the changes could see fees go up 1.2 per cent, in line with to the CPI, residents with more than two cats will be slugged an extra $100, taking the annual licence fee from $35 to $135.
The charges have been raised according to the same fees for multiple dogs, given the level of work for each pet was the same.
Off-street parking fees could also see an increase of 6.2 per cent but no increase will be made to on-street parking spaces.
Waste fees, which bring in 66.8 per cent of council income, will see minor increases, with the fee for acceptance of Commercial Green Waste increasing from $70.00 to $72.00, while the fee for acceptance of Commercial General Waste increasing from $85.00 to $93.00 at the Shoal Bay Waste Management facility.
Any changes to the fees and rates will be reflected in council’s draft budget, which will be released on Wednesday, before being adopted on July 1.
