Crowds gather at Christ Church Cathedral to farewell to Prince Philip
A moving service to honour the life and times of Prince Philip was held in Darwin on Sunday afternoon, just hours after he was laid to rest on the grounds at Windsor Castle.

CROWDS gathered yesterday to farewell Prince Philip, honouring a life of service and a legacy in the Northern Territory.
At a moving service in the Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday afternoon presented by the Bishop of the Northern Territory, Reverend Dr Greg Anderson, mourners remembered the Duke of Edinburgh.

Among those in attendance was NT Administrator Vicki O’Halloran, who read excerpts from the Book of Isaiah.
“(Prince Philip) had a sense of adventure, as Territorians do, and a relatability to Territorians,” Ms O’Halloran told the NT News afterwards.
“For those who‘ve had the great pleasure of meeting him, how joyous an occasion it was for them,” she said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty in this time. They were husband and wife for 73 years, that’s a wonderful long union isn’t it, one that I think we can all respect.”

In his sermon to the congregation, Rev Anderson said Prince Philip embodied mercy and hope.
“The Duke of Edinburgh, for all his manifest virtues, was in the same position as all us,” he said.
Rev Anderson also paid tribute to the Duke’s dedication to his wife.
“It’s easy to think of Prince Philip as somebody in the background, although that is far from the truth.”
“His goal was to stick to the script, but he made of it something impressive and lasting, and his influence will remain for many more years.”
Rev Anderson said the Prince would be missed “not just by the Royal family, not just by the Royal household, but by the nation and the Commonwealth.”
The Christ Church service was held after Prince Philip’s service at Windsor Castle.
