Crocodiles lying in wait at notorious Cahills Crossing

Never mind dozens of salties perched in wait. Do you know the capabilities of your vehicle?

IT’S just another day at Australia’s most notorious river crossing.

Lots of crocs hanging around Cahills Crossing .... Wait for it!

Never mind dozens of salties perched in wait. Do you know the capabilities of your vehicle?

Kristi Moseley caught these images and video on Sunday at Cahills Crossing at the northeast fringe of Kakadu National Park with her croc-loving son Eli.

She counted 21 crocs floating just off the crossing. Eli counted 25.

Feeding frenzy at Cahills

“There were lots of 3-4m crocs, at least one was much bigger and other 2-3m ones cruising around,” she said.

The good old Territory roadblock

“Even two really big ones from the lower side climbed over the crossing on the change of tide to join the crew.

“I have been to Cahills lots of time but never seen this. It was awesome.” Ms Moseley said.

The NT News has received several other videos and photos of the current croc swarm at the crossing, including those above from readers Katie Sartori, Telisha Kotzur and Kane Jolly.

Several 4WDs made the crossing when the water was low, but she caught this vision of a brave driver taking on the rising tide and crocs in a small sedan. To onlookers’ relief, the driver ploughed on through the water — which nearly reached the car’s headlights — like a pro.

But not everyone has been so lucky. At least four cases were reported to police over the wet season at the Crossing, which is regarded as having one of the highest numbers of crocs in the NT.
