UPDATED FEB 13: A tenth Covid death in the Territory has made last week the most deadly since the pandemic began in 2020.

On Sunday the Northern Territory government confirmed a woman from Tiwi Island passed on Friday, but it took them till Saturday night to “confirm” her death.

It comes after government faced scrutiny about their lack of transparency and speed of reporting Covid-19 data from Aboriginal organisations.

Despite the rapidly growing Covid-19 deaths the NT Government has refused to front media since early February. They have also stopped reporting on the vaccination status of Covid-related hospitalisations and deaths.

According to a release from Secure NT the Territory recorded 757 new cases of Covid-19, 643 were from positive RAT tests.

There were 436 cases recorded in the Top End region, 171 in Central Australia, 28 in East Arnhem, 31 in the Big Rivers region, 15 in the Barkly region and 76 were still under investigation.

However, the data was also revised from Saturday’s record-breaking total down from 1383 to 1216.

Yesterday, Central Australian Aboriginal Congress public health doctor, Dr John Boffa tweeted record breaking daily totals were been reported “three weeks after the peak was first noted as being immanent by government sources”.

“Perhaps they saw it coming using the Jingli over the horizon radar system because it still cannot be seen by the naked eye,” he satirically remarked.

Record-breaking 1383 cases across Territory on Saturday.

THERE were a record-breaking 1383 Covid-19 cases reported on Saturday morning, as the Territory’s Covid outbreak continues to trend in the wrong direction.

Despite the surge, the NT News understands there will be no dedicated Covid-19 press conference.

Of the 1383 cases, 799 were in the Top End, 193 in Central Australia and 108 in East Arnhem.

There were 170 people in hospital, of whom 21 were requiring oxygen.

Two patients were in intensive care.

An indoor mask mandate remains in place.

Seven deaths in seven days as grim outbreak worsens

TWO further deaths in the Territory were attributed to Covid-19 on Friday, as the Omicron outbreak continues to worsen.

Despite reporting seven deaths in seven days, there has been no dedicated Covid-19 press conference this week from government ministers.

There were 1096 cases reported in the 24 hours to 8pm Thursday.

The two deaths were a woman in her 40s, who died in her Alice Springs home on February 4, and a man in his 50s who died at Alice Springs Hospital on February 7.

There were 164 cases of the virus hospitalised, 27 of whom required oxygen. Three people were in intensive care.

Despite hopes the curve would turn, case numbers in the Territory have remained defiantly high.

Territory records two new Covid deaths

TWO more Covid deaths have been recorded in the Territory after two people passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital.

A woman in her 60s who had underlying health issues passed away at RDH on February 8.

Another woman in her 60s who also had underlying health issues passed away while in ICU on February 9.

There have now been seven deaths recorded in the NT since the start of the pandemic.

This news comes on a day when case numbers continue to climb with 1161 new infections recorded.

The case numbers for Wednesday have also increased to 1165, from 1124.

There are currently 168 patients in hospital, with 30 requiring oxygen and three in ICU.
