TODAY’S NT News front page revealing Chief Minister Michael Gunner’s $5,000-a-head secret lunch in Melbourne drew community backlash directed at the Labor Government.

Mr Gunner abruptly departed to Melbourne after Thursday’s parliamentary sitting, with his office stating he was away on a personal trip for “meetings” at his own expense.

However, invitations that were leaked to the NT News revealed plans for the fundraising lunch.

“MAAATE !!! “Underwhelming” is the understatement of the century,” wrote Alan.

“He has betrayed us all since the beginning with careless & worthless promises, and through shocking fiscal management, & will continue to do so until he is unceremoniously and deservedly dumped !! Hopefully much sooner than later !!”

“How has he not resigned?? The “Train Wreck Government “ ! It keeps getting worse! No wonder the party is bailing,” he said.

Some readers called for reason, saying it was not out of the ordinary for a politician to have a fundraising event such as this, however they are usually hosted in the home state or territory.

“Sounds like it was a fund raiser for NT labor that was held in Melb..... aka companies or people paid 5k to have lunch with Gunner.... very common really, every polly does it....” wrote Matthew Cabot.

“BUT normally would be done in your home state, the reason would be its southern companies tryin to win contracts in defense or gas or other large contracts as well as major union players .... good way for unions to funnel coin into labor for election spending etc good way to keep the lunch private as well.... just standard election procedures for large partys on every side pretty much.”

Facebook commenter James Waye decided to see the humour the lunch attendance fees.

“How does lunch even cost 5k a head? What were they eating? Wookie steaks with a side of Unicorn testicles?” he said.
