THE Country Liberal Party’s top senate pick Jacinta Price has voiced her support for a Liberal Party candidate who has faced criticism for anti-trans views.
Katherine Deves has been under fire in recent days from members of her own political party over a series of controversial tweets.
Ms Deves has insisted she is “fighting for the rights of women and girls” but apologised for her language.
She had previously compared transitioning to practices during Nazi Germany, invoked the Stolen Generation, and alleged actor Elliot Page was paid to come out as transgender.
In a Facebook post on Monday night, Ms Price backed in Ms Deves, who is running for the Liberals in Tony Abbott’s former seat of Warringah.
The post featured an image of Ms Price alongside Ms Deves, saying she was “a champion for women’s rights and common sense”.
“I back her 100%.”
In the post, Ms Price went on to say that: “If Deves can be silenced then ALL women can be silenced”.
“Enough is enough! We women have fought for decades for our rights and now they’re under attack.”
Some on Ms Deves’ own side of politics have openly criticised her preselection for the Northern Beaches seat.
NSW Treasurer Matt Kean, who is a Liberal, has publicly called for her to be disendorsed.
