Mostert started from eighth place on the grid but was one of the beneficiaries of the Lap 1, Turn 1 chaos which wiped out pole-sitter Anton De Pasquale and several other cars.

It was Mostert’s first win in Darwin since 2015, the 15th of his career, and team Walkinshaw Andretti United’s first win in Darwin since 2008.

Supercars series leader Shane van Gisbergen looked set to claim a seventh win of 2021 but a bungled pit stop saw him finish back in 13th place.

Darwin’s own Bryce Fullwood, driving a Holden Commodore, finished in 11th place.
