THE key to finding love could be as simple as a change of address, with new research showing the most popular suburbs for singles around Darwin.

Based on CoreLogic and Australian Bureau of Statistics data, the top singles suburbs are Darwin, Stuart Park and Woolner.

All of the top suburbs are home to a younger crowd.

The predominant age group in all three suburbs is 20 to 29-year-olds, while Woolner also has a strong 30 to 39-year-old population.

TOP suburbs booting the downturn

Mitchell Smith recently moved to Stuart Park and said the suburb’s assets would help anyone find love.

“You’ve got Dinah Beach, Frying Nemo, it’s close to Darwin City as well,” he said.

“It’s been good so far.”

Elders Leanyer residential property consultant Derek Hart said singles were attracted to Stuart Park and Woolner to have a separation between work and home life.

“They go to work and go home and play,” he said.

“They’re a short drive to the night-life and cafe scene. Any surrounding suburbs I imagine would have a good percentage of young people.”

Mr Hart said people who work in the city often live there.

“It’s the location, the access to night-life which attracts young people,” he said.

“There’s a lot of young couple renters. They’re not committed to a property, they just want to rent and work.”

In Darwin City and Woolner boast an excess of apartments with a median rental price of $400 to $450 per week, while Stuart Park has a healthy mix of houses and apartments.

“There’s a high concentration of rentals (in Darwin City),” he said.

“A lot of singles are by themselves as a rule and once they find love and hook up they start to move to the suburbs and buying.

“They share the debt and the load basically.

They can get a dog, sit outside in the backyard, have their own swimming pool.

“They have the buying capacity of two people and they start treating themselves.”
