DO you like camping and getting out bush?

If so, NT Parks and Wildlife may have the volunteer role for you. It’s searching for campground hosts ahead of this year’s dry season.

Already 21 hosts have volunteered across six Territory parks, and additional positions are needing to be filled.

The hosts maintain campgrounds, providing assistance and information to new travellers who visit by greeting and directing them.

Parks and Wildlife is looking for a range of volunteers to fill positions, including grey nomads, semi-retired travellers, retired and local Territorians, 4WD visitors and younger couples on extended travel.

Shell and Luke Lang are a married couple in their late 30s who volunteer in Territory parks.

Four years ago, they decided to take a year off to travel Australia. But the holiday hasn’t ended yet.

They returned to the NT this year to undertake a three-month caretaker placement at Munbililla (Tomato Island) Campground in Limmen National Park.

“We have always been naturalists, loving everything wildlife, nature and culture,” they said.

“We are only self-educated in these areas and we realised the way we could help Australian conservation was to use our skills and assist the rangers on the ground.
