THE Northern Territory’s largest privately owned bus company is selling their operations across Australia and the NT to a Singapore company for $190.9 million.

The locally owned and operated company announced yesterday that it has entered into an agreement to sell its operations in the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria to ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia Pty Ltd (CDC).

The sale includes 401 buses and 11 depots providing urban, school, special needs, and charter services in locations including Darwin, Jabiru and Alice Springs.

Buslink’s VIVO operations in Darwin working on the Inpex project will not be affected.

Buslink group managing director Brian Hannon said they were hopeful local staff would be retained by the CDC.

The Hannon Family (Buslink Pty Ltd) has operated buses in the Northern Territory since 1988.

“The Hannon and Lucas families will provide transitional assistance to CDC in the 12 months following the sale, and we are positive that it will be a smooth transition to CDC,” Mr Hannon said.

“We are very proud of our growth of this business over the last 30 years, from three buses in Darwin in 1988, to just over 400 buses now.

“As Territorians, my brother Michael and I are particularly proud of our relationship with the NT Government and the growth in the Darwin Bus Network over the past 30 years.

“We will continue with our other interests in the Territory and look forward to our next business venture, whatever that may be.”

CDC is a subsidiary of ComfortDelGro Corporation Limited.

ComfortDelGro is listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange and is one of the world’s largest public transport operators with over 43,000 buses, taxis and rental vehicles in Singapore, Australia, China, United Kingdom, Ireland, Vietnam and Malaysia.

With the purchase of Buslink, CDC will be the largest bus operator in Australia.
