A new overpass will reduce traffic delays and shorten travel time at the Tiger Brennan Dr and Berrimah Rd intersection.
The structure will feature entry and exit ramps connecting the two roads and will have Berrimah Rd motorists passing over Tiger Brennan Dr.
Traffic signals will be limited to Berrimah Rd following adjustments to Tiger Brennan Dr that will create space for free-flowing traffic.
With almost 20,000 motorists travelling via Tiger Brennan Dr each day, Federal MP Luke Gosling said the overpass would be a welcome improvement to the intersection.
“Territorians have lost their lives at this intersection,” he said.
“It’s busy and dangerous, and I know that the people and businesses of Greater Darwin will warmly welcome this much-needed overpass, which will greatly improve safety and save lives.”
Top End business Sitzler will complete stage two of the project over the next two years after being awarded the $127.8m contract.
The project includes improvements to Berrimah Rd to cater to road trains, street lighting, linemarking, road safety barriers, and pedestrian and cyclist accessibility.
Construction will be undertaken in a staged manner to minimise the impact on road users.
Larrakia Nation has also been engaged to sco-ordinate monsoon-themed artwork at the overpass.
