A BELOVED long-term Darwin principal is farewelling the halls of his school this year as he heads into retirement.

BELOVED Stuart Park Primary School principal Bernie Bree will walk the halls and soar on the swings for the last time this year as he heads into retirement.
Mr Bree became the principal in 2003 and said the school’s community spirit captured his heart.

“I really clicked with the community,” he said.
“Our first goal is to make people feel part of our community, to help them form meaningful relationships with other students and teachers and because of that our academic achievement is high.
“My enthusiasm for the job never left me while I was here … it’s something I love doing with the people I love.”

While he anticipated shedding a few tears, Mr Bree said it was time for the next leader to make their mark.
“The next person will bring part of them, something to the school that will make it better,” he said.
“It is now time for someone to take it to another level.”
