Batchelor Institute chief executive Steve Larkin resigns

The chief executive of the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education has resigned.

CHIEF executive of the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education Professor Steve Larkin has resigned.

Batchelor Institute Council chair Patricia Anderson AO announced the resignation of Prof Larkin on Thursday afternoon.

“I thank Professor Larkin for his time as CEO of Batchelor Institute, Australia’s oldest tertiary education provider for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” she said.

“Professor Larkin helped to prepare Batchelor Institute for a new phase of growth, as well as

fulfil its critical role to support students who mostly live-in remote communities, to attain PhDs, masters degrees, and vocational education and training qualifications.

“Our students choose Batchelor Institute as part of their life’s learning journey because it

provides a culturally safe space, education and training of the highest quality, and an

environment where they learn alongside their mob.”

Recruitment for Batchelor Institute’s next chief executive will begin soon. Professor Gareth Allison will act as interim chief executive.

“Batchelor Institute alumni have made, and continue to make, great contributions to the cultural, social and economic development of the Northern Territory,” Ms Anderson said.

“Our alumni are influential leaders who foster positive change to support First Nations’ self-determination, so the vacancy of the CEO position offers an exciting opportunity for someone to continue Batchelor Institute’s legacy.”
