A state funeral will be held to honour the life and legacy of Austin Asche AC KC, the former Administrator of the Northern Territory.
The NT Government has announced the service will take place on Monday February 3, 2025 at the Darwin Convention Centre from 10.30am.
His Honour passed away in December 2024, aged 99.
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said the public was invited to attend the state funeral to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a cherished NT figure.
“From his early days as a pupil at Darwin Primary School in the 1920s to his wartime service, a distinguished legal career and his tenure as Administrator of the Northern Territory, Austin Asche’s commitment to the Territory and its people remained steadfast throughout his life,” she said.
“His contributions have been immortalised through accolades such as the Charles Darwin University Austin Asche Oration and the Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year Award.”
At the family’s request, attendees are encouraged to wear blue in honour of His Honour’s memory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Legacy NT or Mission to the Seafarers Darwin.
Mr Asche is widely acknowledged for a lifetime of service to the Northern Territory and its communities.
One of his last public appearances was the opening of the renovated Casuarina Swimming Pool in July.
