A MAN has been fined $5000 for “stopping at the shops” when instructed to go directly into quarantine.
NT Police Incident Controller Shaun Gill said the 56-year-old failed to follow the Chief Health Officer Directions and go into quarantine.
“Any person directed into quarantine must abide this direction immediately and without delay or they will be issued with an infringement notice,” he said.
“Stopping at the shops like this person did, visiting friends or going for a walk isn’t an option when you have been directed into quarantine.
“We are still in a public health emergency and it is up to each of us to do our part to keep each other safe.”
The NT News has inquired whether the infringement was for the Tanami mine worker who stopped at the Corner Store Friendly Grocer on June 27 after he was told to go directly into Howard Springs.
The penalty for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environment Health Act 2011 is $5056 for an individual and $25,280 for a business.
