Updated, 1pm: Two men who became stranded without food and water during a fishing expedition northwest of Katherine have been found “extremely dehydrated” but alive.

Concerned family members of Pine Creek man Andre Stiles, who was fishing at Flat Rock alongside a friend understood to be Katherine man Dean Overall-Jones, sprung into action on Tuesday evening after receiving a mayday text message from Mr Stiles.

“Please call 000 I’m stuck at Flat Rock near Edith Farms, been here for days no water or food,” the message read.

Mr Stiles’ father Mark and brother Nathan were unable to locate the two men on Tuesday night but after returning to the scene, discovered them just before 11am Wednesday, according to Mr Stiles’ ex-partner Bobbie Toy.

“His [Andre’s] dad rang me and said they have found them, the car had broken down,” Ms Toy said.

“He said they were just going to get some stuff to fix the car.

“They were both alright in the long run, thank God.”

Ms Toy said it had been a stressful 16 hours.

“I’m buggered, I’ve been up most the night,” she said.

Mark, Mr Stiles’ father, told the NT News the pair were “extremely dehydrated” when they were found.

He said he would provide an additional update later this afternoon.

Earlier: Two men are hopelessly lost northwest of Katherine, with a desperate text message sent by one of the pair requesting his ex-partner call triple-0 as they had “been here for days no water or food”.

Pine Creek man Andre Stiles and his friend, who the NT News understands is Katherine man Dean Overall-Jones, are believed to have departed for Flat Rock on a fishing expedition earlier this week.

At 7.42pm Tuesday, Mr Stiles’ ex-partner Stephanie Pascoe received a desperate message from the lost fisherman.

“Please call 000 I’m stuck at Flat Rock near Edith Farms, been here for days no water or food,” the message reads.

“Dean is stuck here too.

“I got no reception plz call 000 not joking plz help.”

Palmerston woman Bobbie Toy, who is the mother of Mr Stiles’ child, was passed on the message and contacted Mr Stiles’ father, Mark, and brother, Nathan.

Ms Toy said Mark and Nathan departed Pine Creek last night in a bid to find the stricken men but had no luck.

They returned to the scene again on Wednesday morning.

Ms Toy said she has contacted NT Police twice, providing them with a GPS pin of Mr Stiles’ last known location, but said it was unclear if a response was being organised.

She claimed to have been told that police would wait to hear from Mark and Nathan before launching their own recovery operation.

“He’s begging over 12 hours ago to please call triple-0, we’re not in a good way, and they’re dawdling,” Ms Toy said.

NT Police was contacted for comment.
