TRISTEN Jones, 29, will carry on the work of the legendary indigenous rock art expert George Chaloupka, who died in 2011.
He had dedicated his multi-decade career to recording numerous known paintings across the NT.
Ms Jones was awarded the $28,000 fellowship - named in Mr Chaloupka's honour - through the Museum and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory Foundation.
The research will include re-recording many paintings discovered by Mr Chaloupka and assessing how time and human visitation may have affected their condition.
The outcome of her work will help the traditional owners of the land better plan for and manage the sacred sites.
