ALMOST one Biz Secure application was approved a day in the last three months, according to government figures.

Biz Secure is a government run grants program that allows business owners to upgrade their security.

Restaurateur Jason Hanna who has been affected by the recent crime wave said the scheme had helped to stem the rate at which his venues were broken into.

Applicants can get up to $20,000 to bolster their security to prevent break-ins.

Between January 2020 and February 2021 the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade approved 861 Biz Secure applications while between December and February 82 applications were approved.

Since the program began in 2017, 2080 applications and $12.6 million in grant funding has been handed out.

An Industry, Tourism and Trade Department spokeswoman said wait time for application approval varied.
