Police have released a COMFIT image of the alleged offender involved in a Darwin robbery.

Serious Crime detectives have released a COMFIT image of the alleged offender involved in a robbery in Jingili on December 29.

He is described as an Aboriginal male aged in his late teens.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark green hoodie and knee-length brown camouflage-style cargo pants.

Police allege about 4pm on December 29 the teen entered a store on Jingili Tce, stole a number of items and threatened staff.

Man arrested in Elliott after alleged police assault

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer, causing the cop to lose consciousness.

About midnight, police received reports an officer had allegedly been assaulted while going to a disturbance at North Camp in Elliott.

He was taken to the Elliott clinic where he received treatment for facial injuries.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning and was expected to be charged with assaulting a member of the police force.

“Northern Territory Police take a zero tolerance approach to assaults on our members, Superintendent Mark Grieve said.

“Our members work closely with the community to resolve any conflicts that arise. To be assaulted while attempting to calm a disturbance and reduce the risk of community members being injured is unacceptable.

“The force of the blow caused our officer to lose consciousness and he is being checked for facial fractures. The alleged offender will be put before the courts.”

Assault investigation

POLICE are investigating the sexual assault of a woman in the Roper Gulf community.

Northern Territory Police confirmed officers received reports that a woman was sexually assaulted at a home around 11pm, Thursday.

NT Police were unable to provide any other details about the ongoing investigation, including if the victim knew the alleged offender.

“In the interest of protecting the victim’s privacy, no further information will be provided,” a spokeswoman said.

Call for witnesses following Jingili robbery

NT police are calling for witnesses following a robbery at a shopping centre in Jingili on Wednesday afternoon.

AT 4pm police received reports of a robbery at a shopping centre on Jingili Terrace after a male entered the store and allegedly stole a number of items.

The man allegedly threatened staff with an edged weapon before fleeing the scene towards Rothdale Rd.

The man was described as Indigenous, aged between 16 and 19, wearing a green hoodie, cargo pants and no shoes.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey urged anyone with information on the robbery to come forward.

“Serious Crime detectives are urging anyone with information, or anyone who witnessed the incident, to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 9887133,” he said.

“You can also make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

Health service closes doors following crime wave

THE Mala’la Health Service Aboriginal Corporation has closed their clinic in Maningrida following a large number of stolen cars and break-ins.

The Health Service runs different services aimed at eliminating poverty, sickness, suffering and misfortune among residents of the Maningrida community.

But they have been forced to close their doors after a number of vehicles have been stolen and break-ins at both Mala’la staff houses and businesses over the past week.

The corporation has stated that they now only have the capacity to see and treat emergencies only, including anyone that is due for their rheumatic heart needle.

“This is not a decision we wanted to have to make, but we have been left with no choice,” the service stated on their Facebook page.

Two men charged in relation to Pinelands attack

NT Police have charged two men in relation to a violent incident that took place in Pinelands earlier this month.

Around 5am on December 9 a 46-year-old man was seated in his vehicle at a service station on the Stuart Highway when two men allegedly armed with edged weapons forced their way into the vehicle.

The pair allegedly forced the driver to take them to the shops in Gray where they exited the vehicle and fled the scene.

Katherine police arrested a 22-year-old on December 25 with the man since being charged with assault – threaten with a weapon, deprivation of liberty, entering a building with intent and stealing.

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on Wednesday.

A 24-year-old was arrested on December 28 and was also charged with assault – threaten with a weapon, deprivation of liberty, entering a building with intent and stealing.

He was remanded to appear before the Katherine Local Court on Wednesday.

“Serious Crime detectives worked closely with our Katherine members to locate and arrest these individuals,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said.

Alice Springs police warn of summer crime spike after break-ins, car thefts, assaults

A SUMMER spike in crime has hit Alice Springs as police respond to six break-ins and a savage assault overnight.

Southern Watch Commander Allan Milner said businesses, tourists, homes and a school had been targeted by criminals over the past few days.

Cmdr Milner said a man was in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a robbery at an Alice Springs taxi rank.

He said the man needed medical assistance after being assaulted and robbed by three men at 12.30am. No arrests had yet been made.

Cmdr Milner said investigations were also continuing following four business break-ins across Alice Springs, including NT Diva Nails, on Todd St, and Dave’s Used Cars, on the Stuart Highway.

Cmdr Milner said nothing was taken from the nail salon, and police were still assessing the damage to the car reseller.

He said a 19-year-old man was arrested at Dave’s Used Cars at 7.20pm but his alleged male co-offender ran off.

Cmdr Milner said Heritage Caravan Park workers arrived at their office on Tuesday morning to find their front door pulled from its hinges.

He alleged CCTV captured an 18-year-old man breaking into the front office between 7.30am and 9.30am to steal room keys.

The man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

Tourists were also targeted at Lasseters Hotel Casino, with an unknown offender breaking into a woman’s hotel room at 11pm.

Cmdr Milner said the offender stole her wallet, cigarettes and a bottle of spirits.

He said her bank cards were used for a number of purchases before it was reported.

Two Alice Springs homes were also hit in the overnight spree.

A wallet, cards, keys and a White Toyota Landcruiser ute was nicked from a Braitling home at 10.45pm.

Cmdr Milner said the car, with number plates CD74ZF, had not been recovered.

An Araluen home was also broken into at 3am, with four mobiles stolen as the residents slept.

It comes as police recover a White Toyota HiLux stolen on Monday evening from Saint Phillip’s College.

Cmdr Milner said the stolen car was used to plough a path out of the college, ramming through a security fence and outer gate and fence.

On Tuesday officers recovered the vehicle, which was left damaged and abandoned.

Cmdr Milner said police had come to expect a summer spike in crime with the warm weather drawing out Alice Springs criminals.

“We expect summer to be busier than other seasons,” he said.

It comes as Darwin police spent the night dealing with youth car thefts, with a group of young people connected to two stolen vehicles.

Northern Watch Commander Kaye Pemberton said officers received reports of a petrol drive-off involving an Air Triton at a Casuarina servo at 12.45am.

Cmdr Pemberton said police spotted the stolen car parked and surrounded by a group of youth at 1.55am.

She alleged when officers approached the group scattered.

A white Toyota Yaris was later stolen from Leanyer, and dumped in parkland.

Cmdr Pemberton said again police saw the youths scattering as they arrived on scene.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged with breach of bail and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Cmdr Pemberton said the matter was still under investigation.
