Five on the run after elderly couple’s assault

Updated, March 13: Three young boys and a girl who allegedly held a knife to an Alice Springs woman’s throat have been arrested and charged.

NT Police in a statement said the three males and one female had allegedly been involved in an aggravated robbery on Lovegrove Drive on Sunday.

The youths have been charged with offences including aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, and theft.

All four have been remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on May 8 and 9.

It follows as detectives investigate a second aggravated burglary on Cromwell Drive, that allegedly occurred just before the Lovegrove Drive burglary.

The Cromwell Drive incident, police say, allegedly involved the same group of three male offenders.

In addition, a 22-year-old man was charged with a string of offences including:

> Aggravated burglary

> Driving, using, riding motor vehicle without consent

> Damage to property

> Theft

> Obtain financial advantage by deception

Police allege that during the Lovegrove Drive burglary, the group, who had been armed with edged weapons, demanded money, cigarettes and alcohol.

One of the offenders is alleged to have held a knife to a 72-year-old woman’s throat.

March 10: Five people are on the run after allegedly kicking in the front door of an Alice Springs residence inhabited by an elderly couple, before holding a knife to the woman’s throat and remaining at the dwelling for half an hour as they plundered possessions.

In a statement, NT Police said they received a report at 5.40am Sunday of a home invasion at Lovegrove Drive, Araluen.

It was reported that five men kicked in the front door of the residence and woke a 73-year-old male and 72-year-old female resident.

It’s alleged the group, armed with edged weapons, demanded money, cigarettes and alcohol, with one of them holding a knife to the female victim’s throat as the demands were made.

The men allegedly remained at the residence for about 30 minutes while removing alcohol and other property from the premises, carrying it to a red Holden Commodore parked across the road, which was waiting with a female diver.

At one point the female victim ran out through the rear door allegedly while chased by two men and called police.

The two men have then jumped the rear fence of the property fleeing the premises.

The remaining three men have then run out through the front door and driven off in the waiting red Holden commodore.

Northern Territory Police are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference number P24067180.
