Whether they were cheering on family or supporting their childhood club Territory footy fans were out in force to watch the Gold Coast Suns take on Geelong.
Just days after the Suns took on North Melbourne at the same ground, local and travelling fans alike came to watch the Cats’ rare venture north.
And more than 12,000 fans were there to watch the Gold Coast Suns make history posting their largest ever score.
Legends of the game were around the ground as well with Joel Selwood and Eddie Betts presenting, while Cyril Rioli Jr was spotted watching on.
Sean Ferme was born in Geelong and had supported the club ever since, but living in Darwin for 35 years meant he had never seen his side play for premiership points in the Top End.
“I’ve been in Darwin for 35 years so to have the Cats play here is awesome, I have goose bumps,” he said.
“It’s awesome for the Territory to have a proper team come up here.
“The Cats are an amazing team, and they’re a good community team as well in the way they support their players and fans, they give back and have a good culture, so it’s great to be a Cats fan.”
Bettina Danganbarr had come to watch her family member Joel Jeffrey play in the Suns outfit in his sixth AFL match in Darwin.
“It’s awesome and we’re very proud to see him play and represent his family and the Northern Territory as well,” she said.
“We’re very proud of him, the whole family from Arnhem Land in the Galiwinku and Gove area is.
“These boys have become good role models to the younger kids and help encourage and empower them to stay positive and follow their dreams.”
