PROLIFIC NT News cartoonist Colin Wicking will donate about 10,000 of his comic creations to the Northern Territory’s major reference and research library on Thursday.

The collection, which represents the majority of works Wicking produced between 1988 and 2018, will be gifted to Library & Archives NT as a record of historical events in the Territory. Wicking said he hoped the cartoons would give people a unique view of recent NT history.

“It just gives a different perspective on the last 30 years of Territory history … and a different feel of what was going on, because what I try to do is capture the feeling of those historic moments,” he said.

Wicking has been a cartoonist with the NT News and Centralian Advocate since 1985 and produces about 500 cartoons a year.

In 2004, the National Trust declared his collection of hard-drawn works a Cultural Heritage Icon.
