A 2.1M croc located during a search after a Russian tourist was attacked at popular Litchfield National Park swimming hole Wangi Falls.

WANGI Falls plunge pool at Litchfield National Park remains closed today after a Russian tourist was attacked by a freshwater crocodile yesterday.

The Crocodile Management Unit located a 2.1m freshie during a crocodile survey last night. It is not known whether this was the crocodile responsible for the attack.

The tourist was believed to be with a group when his knee was attacked at about 2.30 yesterday afternoon.

Parks and Wildlife spokesman Edwin Edlund said the man’s injuries were not serious, but rangers at the scene advised he seek medical attention.

CROCNAPPERS STEAL KIDS’ CROC

The Crocodile Management Unit will re-join Litchfield National Park rangers tonight in an attempt to remove an alleged second small freshwater crocodile to avoid risk of a repeat incident.

Rangers extensively trap the falls at the end of the Wet Season to ensure there are no dangerous crocodiles when tourists flock to park for the Dry.

Mr Edlund said Parks was investigating how this particular crocodile remained.

“That’s what we’re looking into,” he said.

“We trap and remove saltwater crocodiles, they’re of the most concern.

“We’re looking into how big it was (and) where it was ... we think it was a freshie but we need to confirm”.

Mr Edlund could not say when the park would be reopened and rangers were still searching for the croc at the time of print last night.

Wangi falls draws tens of thousands of tourists each year.
