New Australians from 16 countries celebrated their new citizenship on Thursday.
Friends and family gathered at Parliament House and watched in pride as the new citizens crossed the stage to receive their certificates.
Deputy Lord Mayor Vim Sharma led the pledges and congratulated each new Australian.
Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said the day’s citizenship ceremony was a testament to Territorians, the Northern Territory, and Australia that migrants choose to live here.
Newly anointed Australian citizen Shanthi Sampathkumar, who moved to the Territory from India, said she and her family loved everything about Australia.
“We really love this place,” she said.
Ms Sampathkumar said her citizenship unlocked new opportunities for her.
She currently runs a thriving salon in Nightcliff, which she opened five years ago.
