“The Northern Territory is still the safest place in the world,” Ms Fyles said.
She said category 2 elective surgery, including cataract and orthopaedic, had resumed at Royal Darwin and Palmerston hospitals this week and elective surgery would start in Alice Springs “in the coming days”.
Surgeries that require an overnight stay and were deferred because of coronavirus have also restarted.
Ms Fyles said IVF had also resumed at the day surgery and private hospitals would also recommence elective surgeries.
She said the restrictions had helped the NT flatten the curve and eliminate any community transmission “that’s allowed us to look towards the new normal”.
