QUEENSLANDER Sharnay Hassall has passed away after being critically injured in a two-vehicle crash in Livingstone, 45km south of Darwin, on Thursday morning.

Superintendent Bob Rennie had previously praised the efforts of emergency service crews, who delicately cut her free from the wreck, and performed first aid for more than an hour.

The 19-year-old Calliope local was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition, with multiple broken bones among her injuries.

25-year-old electrician Terry Luxford, also from Queensland, died at the scene of the horrific head-on crash on the Stuart Hwy.

The crash happened before sunrise, at 5.55am, when the single-lane road was blanketed in a layer of thick fog.

The NT road toll is now three, equivalent to the same time last year.
