THE Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility has approved a $151.5m loan to Charles Darwin University for construction of its new CBD campus in Darwin.
Another $97.3m commitment was made by the federal government to fast-track development approvals earlier this year.
Northern Australia Minister David Littleproud said the loan would ensure construction of the new campus could continue.
“Now there will be jobs coming to Darwin with all the follow on to local economy,” Mr Littleproud said.
“There will be a first-class education facility that will attract the best and brightest, for research and development for business and industry in Darwin.” Mr Littleproud said the NAIF had injected $3.1b into 26 projects across North Australia, creating more than 10,000 jobs.
CLP Senator Sam McMahon welcomed the news.
“I look forward to seeing shovels hit the ground in the coming months, with construction expected to create 730 much-needed jobs.”
