Darwin Convention Centre played host to the 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards on Friday night, with the host Territory claiming a number of prestigious awards.
Four Northern Territory tourism and hospitality operators and events took home five awards, including the host venue.
The Darwin Convention Centre was awarded gold for being the nation’s number one Business Event Venue.
Another gold for the Territory came in the Tourist Attractions category with the Katherine Outback Experience taking home the gong; the business also picking up bronze in the Excellence in Accessible Tourism category.
The last two Territorian award winners on the night were NT Bird Specialists Birding and Photographic Safaris and Darwin Festival, taking home bronze in the Tour and Transport Operators category and Major Festivals and Events category respectively.
Minister for Tourism Joel Bowden said it was great to see the Northern Territory so well represented at the awards.
“The Northern Territory is home to stunning landscapes, spectacular wildlife and an incredibly hard working tourism industry,” he said.
“The 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards reinforce what we already knew, our tourism operators do it best and there is no place better than our backyard.
“The Territory Labor Government and Federal Government launched the Choose Tourism campaign this week to get more Territorians working in this industry, and tonight’s accolades are just another reason to kick start your career in tourism.”
