Nominations are now open for the 2024 Northern Territory Training Awards, a celebration of the NT’s best trainees and apprentices.

There were more than 3600 trainees and apprentices across the NT at last count in January and the awards, now in their 69th year, are a way to recognise those that are excelling in their field.

The night isn’t just for vocational education and training students alone though with five business category winners also awarded on the night.

Minister for Skills and Training Joel Bowden said the awards were a way to celebrate the achievements of those that will play an important role in the Territory’s future.

“Increasing our skilled workforce is an important part of helping grow the Territory economy to $40 billion by 2030,” he said.

“The Territory Labor Government is getting Territorians ready to enter the workforce. Apprentices and trainees are integral to ensuring the Territory maintains a skilled workforce that meets the current and future needs of Territory employers across all sectors.

“VET plays an important role in future proofing our workforce and helping develop our local capacity.

“These awards give us the chance to acknowledge the work that local trainees, apprentices, employers and training providers do which is a critical contributor to the Northern Territory economy and jobs for Territorians.”

Health, conservation, electro technology, mechanical, mining, beauty services, cookery, fitness, early childhood, business and IT were all among the diverse group of industries honoured at the 2023 awards.
