‘Was an honour’: Anthony Albanese acknowledges call with King Charles III

Anthony Albanese has revealed how his chat went with King Charles as he thanked the 76-year-old monarch for congratulating him on his election victory.

Anthony Albanese has had a call with King Charles III days after his re-election as Australia’s Prime Minister.

Mr Albanese acknowledged the communication on Thursday, saying it “was an honour” to speak to the 76-year-old monarch.

The Prime Minister posted on his X account, following the pair’s call, where he also thanked King Charles for his “heartfelt congratulations” after his election victory on Saturday.

Earlier, Mr Albanese told Sky News he had “seven phone calls” scheduled for Thursday, including a call with the King.

“I think I’ve got seven phone calls this afternoon, including from His Majesty King Charles,” Mr Albanese said.

He had earlier told the broadcaster he had developed “positive” relationships with world leaders over his first term.

“I build relationships with people,” he said.

“I’m pretty upfront in how I engage with people, and I’ve developed that as well on an international level.”

The call came after the King and Queen hosted thousands of community leaders and charity workers for a garden party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.

Mr Albanese last saw the King during the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Samoa in October.
