SOUTHEAST Queensland is on the cusp of finalising a landmark City Deal after all three levels of government agreed to develop an historic 20-year plan.
Cities Minister Alan Tudge, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad and Lord Mayor Graham Quirk gathered in Brisbane yesterday to sign a statement of intent for a deal.
It follows The Courier-Mail’s Future SEQ Campaign, which highlighted the infrastructure and population challenges facing the growing region.
The City Deal is expected to be the biggest in the country and generate billions of dollars in economic activity for the state’s southeast.

Why we should be ‘outrageous’ in our future goals
Although no projects have been announced as part of the deal, it is expected to be heavily informed by the Southeast Queensland Council of Mayor’s Mass Movement Study, which included proposals for new tunnels and faster rail.
Ms Trad said the deal would be firmly focused on improving the region’s competitiveness, enhancing its liveability and creating jobs.
“Southeast Queensland is growing rapidly and we need all governments to work together to make sure our infrastructure is fit for the future,” she said.
