Sweet new shop for Townsville’s Candy Wrapper

A POPULAR lolly shop is now five times bigger as it looks to greatly expand its range for Townsville sweet-tooths.

THE Candy Wrapper has a sweet new location after moving into a bigger and better shop.

The lolly store will remain in Pimlico but has now opened at 52 French St.

Owner Tammy Mason said the new shop was five times the size of their previous location which had allowed them to greatly extend their range of sweets.

“With the other shop you could only get about eight people in here,” she said.

“This is massive and it’s let me expand the international range because I was so limited at the other store.

“We have stuff from South Africa which is new while we also have British, American and New Zealand ranges.

“There is also an alternative range because I cater for vegan, gluten free and dairy free.”

The new store also has a large coloured section where sweets are sectioned by colour to cater for cake decorators as well as lolly buffets while The Candy Wrapper also sells chocolate bouquets and gift hampers.

Ms Mason said it was important for her to retain the feel of a traditional lolly shop.

“I didn’t want to be in a shopping centre because I didn’t want to lose my identity,” she said.

“I wanted this to be an experience like when you’re a little kid and you go into a lolly shop and pick out all your lollies.”

Steve Whaling from EProperty Consultants said the French St shops were well patronised and premises there did not tend to remain vacant for long.

“The shop was a great fit for the Masons as they wanted something more traditional to suit the nature of the business and the size and location were ideal,” he said. “We have one remaining tenancy which is a unique 30sq m cottage previously used as a massage and beauty studio.”
