Controversial Queensland MP George Christensen has announced that he has tested positive to Covid-19.

The rogue MP posted a message on Telegram on Sunday saying: “So, I’ve tested positive to Covid (via Rapid Antigen Test), watch the haters now hope that something horrible happens to me as a result.”

However, Christensen said he is feeling OK, revealing he is taking the controversial anti-parasitic medicine ivermectin after obtaining a prescription from his GP before it was “banned” as a coronavirus treatment in Australia.

“In reality I’ve had worse cases of the man flu. You can never be too careful though so I’m taking good ol’ lemsip, panadol, aspirin, betadine anaesthetic lozenges, zinc, vitamin D, vitamin C as well as ivermectin and doxycycline.”

That’s despite a major new study finding that ivermectin is “useless” against the coronavirus.

In February, Christensen was criticised for attending an anti-vaccine mandate rally after livestreaming himself at the protest.

During the livestream he said: “They claim we’re fringe dwellers, but look at all the people here. All they’re wanting is for this nonsense to end.

“We want our freedom back, we want these mandates to end, we want medical segregation to end, lockdowns, state border closures.”

In January, Christensen announced he would stand down as the chairman of a parliamentary committee – a senior role which added $23,000 to his backbencher salary – amid concerns on his dangerous vaccination views.

Last year, he was criticised by Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath who alleged that his anti-vaccination comments were responsible for low vaccination rates in the region.
