Police pause search for missing Tasmanian teenager Shyanne-Lee Tatnell

Police who are desperate to find a 14-year-old Tasmanian girl missing for more than two weeks have paused the search.

Police have paused the search for a missing 14-year-old Tasmanian girl who disappeared more than two weeks ago, but continue to investigate her disappearance.

Shyanne-Lee Tatnell was last seen about 8.30pm on Sunday, April 30, near the North Esk River on Henry St in Launceston.

Police believe she was wearing a cream coloured hoodie with dark script on the chest and shoulders and bike shorts.

The teenager is described as being about 160cm tall, with a slim build and blonde hair.

Tasmania Police announced on Thursday it would be pausing the North Esk River search effort.

“After extensive searching in the area over two-and-a-half weeks, there has unfortunately been no sign of Shyanne,” Inspector Craig Fox said.

Officers remain in close contact with Shyanne’s family, with Inspector Fox saying their thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.

“Yesterday we conducted another sweep of the North Esk River with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, which unfortunately did not deliver any results,” he said.

“While the large-scale search of the area has been paused, the investigation remains active and inquiries are continuing.”

Inspector Fox said police were continuing to forensically test items of interest that have been found over the past two weeks.

But Shyanne has still not been seen or heard from since April 30.

“We have serious concerns for her welfare,” Inspector Fox said.

“If anyone has information about her disappearance we are again urging them to do the right thing and contact us or Crime Stoppers anonymously.”

It comes a week after police issued a desperate plea in the search for the missing teenager and said they did not expect foul play.

Although Shyanne-Lee has made no contact since she was reported missing 11 days ago, police previously attempted to reach out to the teenager in the event she was listening.

However, those efforts have gone unanswered and the police have paused the search.

The large-scale search has involved extensive investigations on both sides of the river and on the surrounding private property.

Inspector Fox previously made a specific appeal to “anyone who was driving a vehicle on Henry St in the vicinity of the North Esk River between the hours of 8pm and 9pm on Sunday”.

“If you were driving through this location in either direction at this time, please make contact with police,” he said.

Police urge anyone with information to contact them immediately.
