The mother of murdered Bondi schoolgirl Samantha Knight said the first she heard of the NSW Attorney General’s bid to keep her daughter’s killer behind bars when his sentence expires later this year was when he publicly announced it yesterday.
Tess Knight last night welcomed the NSW Governments’ move to stop convicted paedophile Michael Guider, 69, from walking out of jail without any conditions placed on him in June.
The government has also applied for Guider to remain in jail for another year.
“Of course I’m pleased, I went that man to be incarcerated forever, who wouldn’t - he’s one of NSW’s most dangerous criminals,” she told the Daily Telegraph.

“The Attorney General Mark Speakman didn’t contact me about it, yet there’s been a 12-month social media campaign to keep Guider behind bars but I only knew about his decision when I read about it in the papers.
“I’m thankful and appreciative of any move to keep him where he belongs and for justice to be done.”
Mrs Knight’s daughter Samantha vanished after leaving school on August 19, 1986 sparking a nationwide manhunt and police investigation for the next 15 years.
In 2001, Guider pleaded guilty to her manslaughter claiming he drugged her and she accidentally died.
Her body has never been found.
Mrs Knight’s partner Henry Johnston believed the move was politically motivated by the upcoming election.
“There’s an election around the corner — is that why things are suddenly moving?” he asked.
