A Gold Coast car racing ace has added to his trophy cabinet with a prestigious European circuit series win in his signature pink Porsche.

A GOLD Coast car racing ace has added to his trophy cabinet with a prestigious European circuit series win in his signature pink Porsche.

Jaxon Evans, who moved from New Zealand to the Gold Coast 15 years ago, took out the Porsche Carrera Cup’s Franch championship with race wins in the Barcelona leg.

His effort at the weekend adds to the aspiring Supercars driver’s 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia victory.

His winning drives in Spain secured the France crown for his highly-regarded BWT Lechner Racing squad.

Evans said he was “lost for words” at winning the championship, which is a Formula 1 support category.

“What a special feeling. We never gave up and came out on top,” Evans said. “I would be lying if I didn’t say there was a few nerves on the grid.

“We knew what we had to do secure the title so it was just about focusing on that.”

Evans admitted he was not in the “an ideal position” to win the series at the start of the Barcelona weekend with two races ahead: “(We) needed to try and win both races and wait for our competitors to make a mistake.

“It’s an amazing feeling. It will take some time to sink in. Really proud of the team effort from everyone behind the scenes,” he said, adding the only disappointment was not being able to share it with family and friends.

He added: “Massive thank you to the people that work so hard behind the scenes, my investors, my support network - 2020 has been tough on everyone so this feels extra special.”
