Readers have revealed what they think of a new poll that found the Greens are on track to lose two of their three Queensland seats to the LNP while the third is too close to call.
Commissioned by right-wing activist group Advance, the poll was conducted by pollster Insightfully of roughly 600 voters in each of the seats of Brisbane, Ryan and Griffith in Queensland – which are held by the Greens – as well the Victorian seats of Wills, Macnamara, and Melbourne, which is held by Greens leader Adam Bandt.
It comes after a recent Newspoll survey, conducted by The Australian, revealed a hung parliament is still the most likely outcome of the federal election, which is now scheduled for May.
The story on the Greens facing a federal election wipe-out attracted more than 600 comments from readers.
Most of the comments are negative against the Greens party.
Here is what you said:
AGAINST GREENS
Puzzled
“The Greens REALLY dislike Australians. Please show them the feeling is mutual.”
Ian
“Vote ALP & Greens out they have brought nothing but division and massive cost of living crisis. Inflation is down only because we have no spare cash to spend while politicians live a rich life.”
John
“Greens are not Greens any more. Renewables equals the destruction of huge areas of natural bush and killing of bird life for wind turbines not to mention the coastal areas plus huge areas of land for solar panels.”
P
“Labor and the Greens are virtually identical now. The current Labor government led by socialist left prime minister Albanese is the most left wing and divisive in our history.”
Candidapax
“Greens political party - what a wasted experiment! And to think it has taken 40yrs for us to wake up to their communist agenda.”
Peter
“This wipe-out can’t happen soon enough. The Greens have been one of the most regressive and destructive political parties in Australia’s history. Powered by uninformed Luddite stupidity.”
FOR GREENS
Tom
“Ten things that the socialist left, unions and The Greens have done for Australia.
1. Universal public health care
2. Safer workplace conditions
3. Minimum wage and penalty rates
4. Government paid pensions
5. Access to free Public education
6. Public housing
7. Environmental protection and creation of National Parks
8. First home buyers scheme
9. Compulsory superannuation
10. Pharmaceutical benefits
Just to list a few. So all conservative Dutton voters are happy to get rid of these leftist socialist benefits? Happy to just trash the lot and turn into an America? The ‘socialist’ benefits we have in Australia is why we are The Lucky Country. Before trashing socialism Google what it means.”
JOHN
“Papers say this every election that greens will be wiped out. It is not going to happen. They have a core 10-15 percent across federal and state elections and that is fact. The younger generation genuinely see the greens as an alternative to the old labor and liberal parties.”
Sandi
“The only poll that counts is on election day folks. Would be so nice if this latest polling data produced identical results, however it has been instigated by far right activists. Just keep putting 1 on the LNP card and hope for the best outcome.”
ADAM BANDT
Jim
“Why would anyone vote for Bandt. He should be the first to go.”
John
“Adam Brandt was interviewed on Insiders on the ABC yesterday. I actually couldn’t believe what I was hearing. His naivety is absurd. He terrified me.”
C Thinker
“It beggars belief that the people of Melbourne still support Bandt in such high numbers. He is the second most unpopular politician in the country. This is a curious result, given a big chunk of Higgins (which has been historically been liberal) has been added to Melbourne. I know I’m one of his new constituents and I can’t wait to put him last.”
Isaac
“Recall that Marxist Bandt opposed AUKUS well BEFORE Trump when he called the submarines “floating Chernobyls”. Bandt is an extremist. The Greens must be placed last in every seat.”
Melissa
“Greens have lost their way. Adam Bandt is an angry ant who talks over everyone. They have zero interest in environment like the former greens.”
MEMBER FOR RYAN
Ashley
“There has never been a more useless and less visible Member for Ryan than Elizabeth Watson-Brown. Not once have I seen her at any gathering or event though I’m told she is a regular at Greens events. Just doesn’t bother with anyone else. The Greens sent out a flyer a few months ago, in anticipation of the election, that’s all. We’ve had LNP and Labour members in Ryan but never one as completely disconnected from the local community as this one.”
Chris C
“Let’s hope that Elizabeth Watson-Brown doesn’t get voted in again. She is not a true Australian and should not be a MP. Any Member of parliament that won’t display the Australian flag in her own electoral office should be unelectable.”
MEMBER FOR MACNAMARA
James
“If the people of McNamara don’t vote Liberal they need their heads read. The Greens have been even more vocal on Palestine than the ALP. Should be a massive swing to the Libs.”
MEMBER FOR GRIFFITH
Paul
“Griffith needs to right the mistake they made 3 years ago. Chandler-Mather is inept with a significant lack of real life experience which is portrayed through his nonsensical policies he espouses.”
MEMBER FOR BRISBANE
Anthony
“Trevor Evans was a good and effective member, very active in the community and actually stood by his own principles (he was partly responsible for the gay marriage plebiscite which sidelined the LNP religious right). Got done by the Scomo protest vote. Stephen Bates is a ghost - no one in our community has ever seen him.”
Pamela
“As a Brisbane voter, my hope is the candidate, Trevor Evans, will be returned. During the Greens newly elected member, Bates’ three years, I’ve heard nothing of note he has achieved for our electorate. When Trevor Evans was our MP, he actively supported inner city environmental issues.”
