Senator Fraser Anning sinks to new low targeting grieving family with anti-immigration post

Fraser Anning has caused outrage again after he targeted a family grieving their missing toddler in an anti-immigration online post.

Fraser Anning – Who is this guy?

Fraser Anning has again incited outrage after posting a photo of a grieving family with an offensive message online on Mother’s Day.

Anning, a far-right Queensland senator, known for his anti-immigration, anti-Muslim views, posted the image on Facebook yesterday, attacking the Labor Party and Muslim immigration.

The post features a picture of a family, accompanied with the caption, “If you want a Muslim for a neighbour, just vote Labor.”

The people in the photograph are the El-Dennaoui family, a Sydney family who had this photo taken in 2010, as they made a public appeal for information about missing 19-month-old Rahma.

Little Rahma disappeared 14 years ago, believed to have been snatched from her bedroom in Lurnea, after a hole was found cut in the flyscreen of her window.

The photo was taken as her parents family appealed for new information in the horrifying abduction case.

A 2015 inquest into the case failed to return any further answers about the young girl’s disappearance.

Anning’s Mother’s Day post attracted thousands of comments.

“This is an image from a news article covering the kidnapping and disappearance of a child. The child was never found,” one commenter said.

“Fraser Anning is exploiting the pain of this family and is using their trauma for political leverage. This (is) horrific.”

Anning’s post has since been deleted.

Senator Anning, who formed his own right-wing political party after quitting One Nation and being dumped by Bob Katter, has come under fire repeatedly for his comments, behaviour and the actions of his supporters.

Anning released a statement on the day of the Christchurch terrorist attacks, blaming the victims for the crimes that had been perpetrated against them. He was later censured by the senate, who called his comments “appalling”.

He has previously attended various racist rallies across Australia, including a Melbourne rally in January organised by Nazi sympathisers and convicted criminals.

Senator Anning flew business class to attend the rally in St Kilda, organised by the United Patriots Front, at a cost of $3000 to Australian taxpayers.

“My job is to represent the people of Queensland and that’s exactly what I did,” he told reporters at the time.

Last month, one of his supporters allegedly harassed a female journalist and assaulted a photographer at his press conference in Sydney’s south.

Editor's Note: Mr Anning also used the photograph (previously in this article) of a family with the Australian flag without permission. The image was taken for a story about flooding in Victoria in 2011. The family pictured do not support Fraser Anning's message, and had no idea their image would be used in such a way.
