Readers text in their verdicts on Scott Morrison’s election win chances

News.com.au readers have given their verdict on Scott Morrison's chances at remaining Prime Minister after Saturday’s vote.

Election campaign down to 'character and competence' of leaders

News.com.au readers have given their verdict on Scott Morrison’s chances of remaining Prime Minister after Saturday’s vote, texting their responses to news.com.au’s federal election text messaging service.

Subscribers weighed in with their views responding to national political editor Samantha Maiden’s text message updates, where political enthusiasts can have their election questions answered and get live updates and inside info on the campaign.

Responding to a question from Maiden about Mr Morrison’s chances, readers were split between a Coalition victory being a “sure thing” to “very slim”.

While most polls are tipping a Labor win, many subscribers offered reminders of the “quiet Australians” Mr Morrison thanked after his last unexpected victory.

“Scott Morrison thanked the Quite Australians that voted him into power..The same with apply on this election,” one reader wrote.

“Albo should have zero chance of being elected. It is ScoMo for me as PM,” another wrote. “Great GDP and jobs and lowest unemployment since 1974. He absolutely deserves to be re-elected.”

Others were equally as enthusiastic for the opposite result.

“Low. Who in their right mind would vote for him?” a subscriber wrote.

“Multiple people from his own party (who work with him daily) have called him a liar and even a psycho. If that’s not enough to turn you off, then what is...

“He also tackled a kid, doesn’t hold the hose, said woman are lucky they aren’t being met by bullets, cancelled a submarine deal that cost tax payers over $5b, forgot to order vaccines, didn’t bring in ICAC. That’s just off the top of my head.”

Some predicted a ScoMo loss, but were as eager for their prediction to be realised.

“Unfortunately his days are numbered,” one reader wrote.

While others feared the opposite result.

“A remote chance, probably on preferences. But if so, what a disaster for our country...”

Another common response was that it was just too close to call.

“ScoMo could get in by skin of teeth,” one subscriber said.

“It’s 50:50. I don’t think people are educated on how to vote properly,” wrote another.

And others still were “uninspired” by all options.

“Long-time Liberal voter living in a Labor seat. Totally uninspired by Lib, Labor and Greens. Help!”

The opinions on a potential Mr Morrison win follow an also wide-ranging array of responses about Anthony Albanese’s chances.
