Controversial Liberal candidate Katherine Deves has featured in an awkward and “priceless” clip with a band of her supporters.

Controversial Liberal candidate Katherine Deves has featured in an unintentionally hilarious clip featuring a group of her supporters.

The cringeworthy clip shows the hopeful member for Warringah, in Sydney’s northern beaches, surrounded by a band of blue T-shirt-wearing locals hoping to get Ms Deves elected.

“We love Katherine, she is our candidate,” one enthusiastic support yells to the camera.

However, the attempt to get the rest of the group to join in the chorus was met with trepidation, with their murmured reply delivered completely out of unison.

Online, users were quick to poke fun at the video, with some labelling it “priceless” and others going as far to call it “pathetic”.

“This is seriously bad and funny at the same time,” one woman wrote.

“Did they actually post this? Or was it leaked?” another asked.

The video’s release comes after weeks of controversy for Ms Deves, who received death threats for her past comments about transgender people.

Ms Deves, who calls herself a women’s advocate, opposes the inclusion of transgender women in sport.

She revealed the abuse in a television interview last weekend.

“I have had to have the police and the (Australian Federal Police) involved,” she said.

“My safety has been threatened. My family is away from Sydney because I don’t want them to witness what I’m going through and nor do I want their safety put at risk.”

Ms Deves was hand-picked to run by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and came under fire over a series of since deleted tweets, including one which she claimed trans teenagers were “surgically mutilated”.

Her social media footprint was deleted days before she was announced as the Liberal candidate.
