Labor has returned to government with a surprise majority as Anthony Albanese becomes the first Prime Minister to win re-election since 2004.

As of Monday, Labor has claimed 87 of the 150 seats in the House of Representatives, including Peter Dutton’s seat of Dickson.

The Coalition has secured just 39 seats.

The Greens are licking their wounds after a Brisbane shellacking while the Teals are celebrating in Sydney. Counting continues.
