Anthony Albanese is set to become Australia’s next Prime Minister, but counting is continuing in nine seats.

As it stands, Labor has 73 seats and is just three short of the majority needed to govern without relying on crossbenchers.

The Coalition has 53 seats, others on 16 and nine still in doubt.

In NSW, Gilmore, Bennelong and Cowper are yet to be called.

Bennelong

With 56 per cent of the vote counted on Sunday morning, Labor’s Jerome Laxale is ahead 51 per cent to 49 per cent on two party preferred against the Liberals’ Simon Kennedy.

Gilmore

The seat former NSW Treasurer Andrew Constance is running for, remains in doubt. The Liberal is on 49 per cent against Labor’s Fiona Phillips on 51 per cent on two party preferred.

Cowper

No two party preferred update from this seat, meaning it remains in the balance. Nationals’ Pat Conaghan has received 40 per cent of first preference votes, but independent Caz Heise has 26 per cent and could do well on preferences.
