Anthony Albanese already tipped to win 2025 federal election

Bookies have already declared Anthony Albanese a firm favourite to win the next federal election in three years time.

It hasn’t even been 24 hours since Anthony Albanese won the federal election, but Sportsbet is already tipping Labor will win again in three years time.

The Australian online bookmaker is offering odds of $1.50 for Labor, $2.65 for the Coalition and $51 for any other party.

“We’re not sure how much sleep Anthony Albanese got last night so the next election will be the furthest thing from his mind but we are already tipping Labor to go to back-to-back,” Sportsbet’s Sean Ormerod said.

It comes as uncertainty remains over who will be the next Liberal leader.

Last night Scott Morrison conceded defeat and announced he would quit the Liberal leadership.

But he said he planned to stay in parliament and three years from now he “looked forward” to the re-election of a Liberal Government.

“To my colleagues tonight, who have had to deal with very difficult news, and have lost their seats tonight, I as leader take responsibility for the wins and the losses,’’ he said.

“That is the burden and that is the responsibility of leadership.

“As a result I will be handing over the leadership at the next party room meeting to ensure the party can be taken forward under new leadership which is the appropriate thing to do.”

All eyes are now on Peter Dutton as the Liberal Party Deputy Leader Josh Frydenberg is likely to lose his Melbourne seat of Kooyong to independent Dr Monique Ryan.

Dutton, the outgoing Defence Minister, suffered a scare in his Brisbane seat of Dickson early during counting on election night, but ultimately saw off a challenge from Labor’s Ali France.

The Liberal Party won the previous three federal elections in 2013, 2016 and 2019, while Labor won the two before that in 2007 and 2010.

The 2007 election was the first time the Labor Party was returned to office since 1996.

However, in 2010 the election resulted in a hung parliament for the first time since 1940.

Labor only won 72 seats and 76 seats are needed to govern in their own right.

Labor was returned to government with the support of the Greens and three independents.

In the 2022 election Labor has enough seats to form a majority government, The Australian is projecting.

A batch of new seats were called Sunday morning, pushing Labor to 77, averting the prospect of a minority government.
