A FAR NORTH couple’s quiet fishing session was interrupted when a “monster” croc showed up to devour two small sharks that became stranded on a beach.

Tully’s Yvonne and Tony Palmer were fishing a few kilometres north of Cardwell about 7.30am on Sunday and when the croc, estimated to be 4–5m dropped by to feast on the sharks.

The incident was captured on video by Mrs Palmer who can be heard saying “holy smackers … check out this monster. That’s the biggest crocodile I’ve ever seen in my life”.

“F*** me, what a morning!”

Speaking after the incident, Mrs Palmer said it was a “very unique encounter” to see a massive croc less than 10 metres away.

“It was beautiful and scary at the same time,” she said.

“To have a massive croc like that coming near you, we weren’t certain if it were going to be aggressive or not.

“But this one was quite calm.”

Mrs Palmer said she and her husband, Tony Palmer, were trying to release the two small sharks back into the water, but they kept swimming back onto the beach.

“That’s when the croc must’ve heard all the splashing and commotion and came up to check it out,” she said.

“He (Tony) was initially scared as well because it’s quite confronting to have this animal come towards you.

“But as soon as we saw it coming for the sharks, it wasn’t so bad.

“We were certainly aware it’s a very dangerous animal, but it was a different experience to see one up so close.”

She said they were ready to leave the area had the croc came onto shore.

As of Sunday 1.20pm, her video on Facebook has been shared about 7200 times with nearly 600 reactions and 250 comments.
