Eric Thomas, formerly Gable Tostee, is found naked in smashed-up car

Gable Tostee has pleaded guilty to failing to supply a breath test after being found by police naked and trapped in the wreckage of his car.

Tostee tells all

Gable Tostee has been banned from driving for 12 months after a crash on the Gold Coast last year where he had to be extracted naked from the wreckage of his car.

Tostee, who now calls himself Eric Thomas, told reporters outside Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday he was “totally ashamed this has happened”.

“Things have been a bit rough lately,” he said, Nine News reported.

The 35-year-old carpet layer was accused of murdering New Zealand woman Warriena Wright, after the she plunged to her death from his Gold Coast balcony during a Tinder date.

He was acquitted of all charges by a jury in 2016.

Tostee appeared before court this week where he pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath and blood sample to police after the crash on the Nerang-Broadbeach Road in October last year.

The court heard Tostee drifted onto the opposite side of the road in front of another car, striking a concrete barrier before skidding into the scrub.

“You were trapped in your car, you were naked, you had driven off the road,” magistrate Linda Bradford-Morgan said, The Courier-Mail reported.

Police observed Tostee was unstable on his feet and slurring his speech. He was taken to hospital suffering a concussion and foot injury.

Thomas said he had consumed alcohol and prescription medication prior to getting behind the wheel.

Tostee had already been banned from driving since the crash, and his defence lawyer told the court the ban had impacted his carpet laying business.

“He only started (the business) several years ago as he explains when he was going OK,” Nick Dore said.

“He’s now had a relapse in relation to his mental health issues and his drinking and he is now taking steps to fix that or to try alleviate that.”

Tostee was sentenced to a 12-month probation order and was disqualified from driving for a further 12 months.

Speaking outside court, Tostee said it was lucky no one else was injured in the crash, explaining the reason he was naked.

“I was just in that state you know,” he said.
