Coronavirus NSW: Gyms to reopen on June 13

The NSW Government has set a date for the reopening of gyms across the state with fitness fanatics to return to fitness classes, dance studios and community centres this month. HERE ARE THE DETAILS.

The biggest changes gyms will make once restrictions are lifted

Gyms, fitness classes and dance studios in NSW will finally be allowed to reopen their doors from June 13.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro today announced the move and said venues would be capped at 100 people and group fitness will have a limit of 10 per class.

“As they say, you build summer bodies in winter, and that’s what we’re doing today,” Mr Barilaro said.

The announcement also includes community centres, tattoo parlours and massage parlours.

“We all know that physical fitness is important to, of course, your mental fitness and that’s why it’s timely that we’ve made this announcement, and that will include even community centres, where we know a number of organisations use those community centres for the purpose of running a range of different programs, including dance studios,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Indoor swimming pools, saunas, will also be opened up with some level of restrictions. Tattoo parlours are, again, another area that we’re allowing to open up, including massage parlours, with a maximum of 10 clients per time.”

Under 18s community sport will be allowed to resume on July 1 with Health Minister Brad Hazzard explaining that the delay would help local government with logistics.

“Re-opening kids’ sporting competitions on 1 July gives groups and local government … time to work through all the new changes,” Mr Hazzard said.
