A trio of men have been roasted online after they decided to blast music from a speaker on a busy Perth train.
A frustrated passenger who recorded a video of the moment described the individuals as “self-centred” and “obnoxious” for playing the music loudly.
The clip was shared to Reddit prompting an influx of angry comments.
“Why do people do this s***? Buy some f***ing headphones,” one top comment read.
Others said it was “embarrassing,” “cringe” or “disrespectful”.
“Poor work commuters just want some peace and quiet, I know that feel,” sympathised one viewer.
“Just what you want on your way home from work,” said another sarcastically.
Many social media users could not believe those playing the music were adults.
Last year, news.com.au asked 2000 Aussies a series of questions about their lives and habits.
When asked whether it was appropriate to use your phone on loud speaker in public, 18 to 29-year-olds were 2.4 times more likely than the average Aussie to choose, “Yes, I don’t care about other people and their comfort so I’m totally fine with this”.
Older Aussies, aged 60 and over, were horrified at the thought, with people in this age group 20 per cent more likely to state, “never, ever, ever”.
The man behind the video, told Yahoo News passengers were visibly “shifting away” from the men with the music.
“It’s the end of the day. Everyone just wants to get home and unwind,” he said.
“They don’t want to be forced to listen to other people’s blaring music, and they don’t want a confrontation either.”
The issue is actually addressed in Transperth’s list of rules that must be followed.
“If you use a personal audio device, always use earphones keep the volume low,” the rule states.
Behaviour that causes nuisance, like this, carries a $100 on-the-spot fine and maximum penalty of $500.
It is the same penalty as travelling without a valid ticket, smoking, drinking alcohol or putting your feet on the seats.
