The trial over the murders of Australian siblings Callum and Jake Robinson has been delayed again, after lawyers for the accused asked for more time to work on potential plea deals.

The trial over the murders of Australian siblings Callum and Jake Robinson has been delayed again, after lawyers for the accused asked for more time to work on potential plea deals with prosecutors.

Judge Oscar Padilla granted the extension, but said it would be the last delay in the case.

He also said defence lawyers will face financial penalties if they are not ready for the next hearing on November 13.

Three of the accused including Jesus Gerardo, Irineo Francisco and Angel Jesus are charged with aggravated homicide, aggravated robbery, violent robbery and grand theft auto.

The fourth suspect, Ari Gisel, faces inciting violent robbery charges.

None of them have entered a plea yet.

At least two of the people charged with the homicide of the Australian brothers and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad are allegedly linked to a violent Mexican cartel designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation by the Trump Administration.

Mexican prosecutors have repeatedly insisted the killings were not connected to the violent cartels in the area and that the trio were murdered in a “robbery gone wrong”.

But according to court documents obtained by the ABC, at least two of the accused were transferred to high security prisons last year because of their alleged links to the Sinaloa Cartel.

The violent group has been officially named as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation by the Trump Administration.

Perth brothers Jake, 31, Callum 32, and their American friend Jake, 30, were killed in April last year during a surfing trip in the state of Baja California.

Their burnt out truck was later found and their bodies were also discovered in a well about an hour south of the Mexican border with the United States.

Prosecutors alleged the killers had been attempting to steal the wheels from the vehicle the trio had been travelling in during a surfing road trip.

A memorial has been established in Mexico to honour them, which consists of three intertwined wooden statues that resemble silhouettes with their back turned to the ocean where the men last surfed.
